Ladies and gentlemen I feel the need to return to that most fascinating of topics, which is - what is art? I can't believe that anybody could find the subject boring. As you know, I consider myself to be an artist, and I am in the process of completing a major work in the medium of yarn. It is a series of five pieces known as Blankets 1 to 5. Unfortunately Blanket 1 was lost to posterity somewhere in Brighton, Blankets 2 and 4 are held by members of the artist's family. Blanket 3 was donated to an anonymous recipient and I am in the process of completing Blanket 5. Here are some pictures of this epic sequence.
Many great artists had assistants to enable them to complete their masterpieces, and I am no exception
The other day someone said to me "Oh, we're not going to discuss what is art again are we - it's so boring"
All I can say is - NO IT ISN'T, there is always something new to talk about. For example this fabulous piece of engineering is obviously art - it is so awe inspiring.

However, Steve says it isn't art because it hasn't got proper angel's wings
Well Steve, I beg to differ. The Angel of the North is just a fantastic monumental thing that enhances the landscape in a sensational way. You can probably tell that I love it. I don't know very much about Antony Gormley except that he is a wonderful sculptor - take a look at this piece:
This is Sound II in the crypt of Winchester Cathedral. The crypt floods regularly which is why the feet are white; there is a build up of lead sulphate as the water reacts with the lead of the body. Ally and I adored this sculpture.
There is art all over the place; for example, what do you think of these objects?
These telephone boxes were designed by Giles Gilbert Scott, and he was influenced by the family tomb of Sir John Soane, the architect of the Bank of England. So there we have it; are they art? Whatever they are, they are extremely desirable items, as I am sure many of you know.
Sculpture has an advantage over pictures in that you can walk all the way round it, and in many cases you can touch it. I'm looking forward to a lot more encounters with art in the future.
